Biochemistry, Pathology, In Vivo & In Vitro Study of Breast Cancer
Invited Speaker: Scope A
Tengku Ahmad Damitri Al-Astani b. Tengku Din is a lecturer in Department of Chemical Pathology and research coordinator on breast cancer study at Breast Cancer Awareness & Research Unit (bestARi), Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia, Kubang Kerian Kelantan and a coordinator for entrepreneurship (Epics), Health Campus, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Kubang Kerian Kelantan. He received a BSc in Biochemistry (Hons) from Universiti Putra Malaysia and MSc in Pathology and PhD in Molecular Pathology from Universiti Sains Malaysia, School of Medical Sciences, Health Campus. He received a research grants from USM as Principal Investigator (PI) for Short Ierm (ST) and Research University Grant (RUI). He has been active in the area of breast cancer study and diabetic type 2 for over 10 years. He also has an experience in grants management and animal ethics committee as secretary. His current research interests involve the in vivo & in vitro study of breast cancer that focusing on apoptosis mechanism pathway in cellular level and clinical study focusing on biomarker and metabolomic that involving breast cancer patient. Besides that, he also involves in NPC & colorectal research as co-investigator with UIAM, UKM & IMR.


Medical Mycology, Antimicrobial Activities of Medicinal Plant

Dr. Tuan Noorkorina Tuan Kub is a Lecturer at Department of Medical Microbiology & Parasitology, School of Medical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). In administrative and technical responsibilities, she is the Technical Manager (medical microbiology testing: scope virology/serology) for MS ISO15189. She received her Bachelor of Science (Microbiology, Hons.) degree, Master of Science (Plant Pathology), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Microbiology from Universiti Sains Malaysia. During her PhD, she studied the in vitro and in vivo antifungal effect of herbal medicine onto superficial mycoses, as well as the toxicity study and chemical compound analysis of the herb. Her MSc. focused on plant pathology field which was the fungal infection on herbal medicine plant, Andrographis paniculata. Her research interests are mainly on development of herbal formulations and antimicrobial activities of herbal plant.

Amir Modarresi Chahardehi (Dr.) holds a PhD. In Medical Microbiology (Anticancer, antioxidant, antimicrobial activities) from School of Biological Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia. His MSc. Is in Plant Pathology (plant virology) from Islamic Azad University, Science & Research Branch, Tehran, Iran. He holds his bachelor's degree in Plant Protection from Islamic Azad University as well. He is a Postdoctoral Fellow at Advanced Medical and Dental Institute, Universiti Sains Malaysia. His field of expertise is Neuroscience, Microbiology, Plant Pathology, Oncology and Phytochemistry.

Dr. Mowaffaq Adam Ahmed Adam hold a PhD. degree in Medical Oncology from Universiti Sains Malaysia, M.Sc. Degree in Microbiology from Bangalore University in India and B.Sc. Degree in Biotechnology from Bangalore University India. Dr. Mowaffaq is a Postdoc fellow in Infectomics cluster Laboratory of Advanced Medical and Dental Institute (USM) and previously worked as a research assistant under the same cluster. Dr. Mowaffaq area of expertise are Human and Cancer Genetics, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology and Microbiology.

Analytical Chemistry and Food Chemistry

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gan Chee Yuen is currently, working as Deputy Director in ABrC. Previously given administrative and technical responsibilities: Deputy Technical Manager (in food safety testing, drug of abuse testing, elemental testing) as well as Quality Manager (ISO/IEC17025). Over 9 years of experience in Academic and Research Sector and 1 year as Post-doctorate fellow. A proactive academician and researcher with expertise in the research field of analytical chemistry and food chemistry. Managed to publish many international journals and actively involved as reviewers (reviewed over 200 articles) for the past 6 years. Successfully secure several research grants including ERGS, RU and private grants. Professionally recognized as science consultants.


Bioinformatic, Biochemistry (carbohydrate, lipids,proteins)

Dr. Mohd Nazri Ismail is a Senior Lecturer in the Analytical Biochemistry Research Centre (ABrC) at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). Nazri received his Bachelor of Science (Biochemistry, Hons.) degree from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Molecular Biosciences from Imperial College London. During his PhD training under the supervision of Anne Dell and Stuart Haslam, he studied the O-glycan structures in health and disease conditions of a mouse model. His current research focuses on mass spectrometric characterisation of proteins, lipids and small molecules in medicinal plants and animals. To date he has published over 20 journal articles and two research books.


Molecular Toxico-Pathology

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Md Azman Seeni Mohamed obtained his Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology and Bachelor of Applied Science (Biotechnology) from Universiti Sains Malaysia. He also has a Master in Medical Sciences (Pathology) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and finally further his PhD study at Nagoya City University, Japan in Molecular Toxico-Pathology. He has over 14 years experience in Cancer Research and published numerous paper with High Impact Factor. So far, he has supervised more than 20 postgraduate students in cancer research as well as in biomaterial products. He also won many prestigious awards either in local or international competition eg American Association Cancer Research Travel Grant Award 2009, Double Gold Award of British Invention Show 2011 and obtained one patent on chemo preventive agent. Recently, he has focused his research work on cancer chemoprevention, Prostate Disease using Streblus asper, Stingless Bee Honey and Paddy Waste Product.

Hajah Normaliza Abdul Manaf (Dr.) holds a PhD. in Chemistry (Separation Analysis) from Universiti Sains Malaysia. Her MSc. is in Forensic Toxicology. She hold a Bachelor in BioMedical Sciences from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. She is a Science Officer at Nexus Social Sciences & Humanities, Universiti Sains Malaysia. Her field of expertise is Chemical Analysis, Green Chemistry, Microextraction, Steroid Profile, Mass Spectrometry and Sustainable Development.
